The GitLab UX Department is a 60+ person globally distributed team that consists of Product Design, UX Research, and Technical Writing.
Our goal is to make our product easy to use, supportive of contributions from the wider GitLab community, and built for a diverse, global community. We want GitLab to be the easiest and most delightful product in its class.

The goal of UX research at GitLab is to connect with GitLab users all around the world and gather insight into their behaviors, motivations, and goals. We use these insights to inform and strengthen product and design decisions.
UX Researchers are one of the many GitLab Team Members who conduct user research. Other roles, such as Product Managers and Product Designers, frequently conduct research with guidance from the UX Research team.
At the center of our UX research process, Research Coordination is there to connect the GitLab team with GitLab users.

What you can expect in a UX Researcher role at GitLab:
- Proactively identify generative user research projects within your stage groups. Work collaboratively with Product Managers to execute research projects.
- Guide, and where necessary train, UX Designers in how to undertake evaluative research projects and in how to create strategic deliverables (such as journey maps, storyboards, competitive analyses, and personas).
- Understand the technology and features of the stage groups to which you are assigned, and have working knowledge of the end-to-end GitLab product.
- Evangelize research. Share user insights with the broader organisation and externally in creative ways to increase empathy.
- Lead strategic user research initiatives that span multiple stage groups (and possibly the entire product).
- Mentor UX Researchers, both inside and outside of your stage groups.
- Actively contribute to UX Research processes, documentation and repositories.
- Engage in social media efforts, including writing blog articles and responding on Twitter, as appropriate.
- Interview potential UX candidates.
